Natia Makharadze
The Head of the Department of Georgian Language and Literature
Lessons by the teachers at the Department of the Georgian Language and Literature focus on the discovery and development of different skills in students. Teachers play the role of a facilitator/guide in the classroom, with this helping students to fully engage in classroom activities.
To diversify lessons and make them interesting, teachers use discussions, project-based learning, teamwork, brainstorming, role-play activities, etc. In evaluating students, teachers apply formative and summative assessment system.
In applying formative assessment, teachers are guided by predetermined criteria. The Department of the Georgian Language and Literature holds final examinations in both semesters, which determine whether the student has adequately learned the material covered in the semesters; home reading assignments are also checked. From the 7th grade, students start writing literary analysis and argumentative essays; they also actively do text edition exercises and reading comprehension assignments. The department frequently holds intellectual events and involves students in them.
